Guest speakers were Gerrie Beukes (SA mountain bike athlete) and Landie Visser (one of SA’s top trail runners).
The clinic, organised by Sonja Terblanche-Otto (SA triathlete and sport scientist), was attended by 10 aspiring new and experienced triathletes. The topics that were covered included the basic principles of triathlons and training programs, practicing the transitions, bike setup and repair, nutrition for triathletes, training with a heart rate monitor, practical sessions and skills needed for the run, cycle and swim legs and racing strategies.
Beukes gave them valuable tips and information on the set up of their bikes, their position on the bikes during a race and what to look for when purchasing a bike.
Visser and her future husband, Christiaan Greyling, gave attendees tips on technical running, running position and what to look for when you purchase shoes.
Terblanche-Otto was very excited about the outcome of the training clinic.
"Although the athletes had different levels of experience in triathlons, they have all learned a lot. It was great passing on our skills, experience and knowledge to these guys," she said.
The next training camp will be presented over 5 days from 5 to 9 December at Pine Lake Marina.
