GARDEN ROUTE DISTRICT SPORT NEWS - A Mossel Bay girl was part of the Western Cape Nipper team which came first in the surf events of the 2021 Lifesaving South Africa Interprovincial Championships.
The championships took place in Durban from 24 to 26 of April.
The Western Cape Nipper team won the Surf events for the 15th time in the last 18 years. KwaZulu-Natal ended second and Eastern Cape third in the surf events.
On the first two days of the championships, the Nippers, Youth and Open participants from six provinces, took part in the pool events at King's Park Swimming Pool in Durban.
Chané Reinecke, of Mossel Bay Surf Lifesaving Club (MBSLC) based at Diaz Beach, was part of the Western Cape Nipper team, which ended second in the pool competition. Eastern Cape won the pool competition and Gauteng came third.
The surf Nipper events took place on 26 April at Addington Beach in huge surf.
The Youth and Open Surf events started at North Beach but the water events were moved to Addington beach for safety reasons.

Besides Chané Reinecke, Eden athlete, Plettenberg Bay's Ellen Kleinsmith, was in the Western Cape Youth team which came second in the championships.
Claudio Miller of Marlin Surf Lifesaving Club, based at Santos Beach, Mossel Bay, was the coach of the Western Cape Youth team.
