MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Mayixhale Street was abuzz on Saturday, 29 January, as sport enthusiasts and spectators flocked to enjoy a fun day, filled with activities for the youth.
The event marked the 2022 kick-off of the iKhaya community development, sport and recreations centre.
The iKhaya organisation was started by Lazole Thole in 2020, when he was confronted with the dire needs of the community, especially the children.
Thole was then employed by SASSA. As a former boxer, he realised sport may be the answer to giving the youth direction and discipline to address the challenges life offered. iKhaya has since grown in membership and is being operated from a base in Asla Park.
The day started with a fun run starting at 06:00, followed by a street soccer and netball tournament. The formal opening, attended by the deputy mayor of Mossel Bay, Alderman Cliffie Bayman, featuring special demonstrations, was at 10:00.

Thole showed off his boxing skills. As the young boys performed their demonstration, they were also instructed to do the "Mayixhale jab". Their training, as later explained, is also focused on self defence. An energetic aerobics demonstration was also given and dance groups performed traditional dances.
The event was held in partnership with Mossel Bay Municipality.
This young chap was keen to show off his ball sense.
