MOSSEL BAY GOLF NEWS - Last Thursday, 21 June was the shortest day of the year, better known as the winter solstice in our neck of the woods.
I know it is actually the beginning of winter and a good few cold months lie ahead, but the thought that the days are getting longer, albeit by a few minutes a day, makes me very happy.
The ladies had a super Thursday, with some remarkable scores being posted, and as is the nature of the beast, some less remarkable. Whichever way you look at it, we are still very lucky to be enjoying the last few warm autumn days in this little paradise of ours.
Catherine Bell, who I noticed practising her chipping the day before, proved that practice does indeed make perfect, scoring a superb 41 individual points to claim first prize. Marianda de Villiers (who must have been practising on the sly), also had a fabulous day, returning an equally great 40 points. Not to be outdone, Chantel Grard showed what she can do with a little effort and finesse, and took third spot with 38 points.
Evergreen Gail Botha's 36 was good for fourth, counting out Marina Juta to fifth on the same score.
Magda Griesel, returning after a long layoff, also scored 36 but, lost to the Duckworth Lewis system.
Jackie Braisher and Christe-Mari Meyer both carded 2 clubs, and Ilze Nel won nearest to the pin.
