The Knysna Golf course management came to the rescue and pumped 1 575 000 litres of water off the course to at least make it playable. The embedded ball rule was applied throughout the event.
A quality field of 68 players, with 42 being in the A-division, played in brilliant sunshine which compensated somewhat for the very wet and muddy conditions.
Kim Williams (Centurion) led the field after the first round with a very capable 73. Her 74 in the second round seemed to have wrapped up the event, except that Monique Smit (Oubaai) came in with a brilliant 68 to make for a sudden death play-off.
This was played in fading daylight and Smit clinched the deal on the first hole to take the trophy.
She made a clean sweep of the tournament taking the Open Gross, Open Nett and Closed Gross trophies.
In the B-division Jamie-lee Daniels (Uitenhage) won the Open Gross, Ypie Kingma (Knysna) the Open Nett and KJ Nicholson (Knysna) the Closed Gross.
The C-division Open Gross winner was Inge Conradie (George) who also made a clean sweep of the Open Nett and the Closed Gross. Chris-marie Horn won the Closed Junior Trophy.
Lee-ann Pace, leading player on the Ladies Pro circuit, whose home club is Mossel Bay, was there to present the prizes.
The tournament was supported by a generous grant from the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport.
The team to represent Southern Cape at the forth coming Inter Provincial Tournament, to be staged at George, was announced at the prize giving.
The team members are Sandra Winter (Captain) Iliska Verwey, Monique Smit and Nicole Loesch with Maggi du Toit as reserve. Sonja Bland is the manager.

The winners of the Closed divisions at the Southern Cape Women's Golf Championship are (from left) Sonja Bland (Southern Cape Women's Golf), Inge Conradie (C-division), Monique Smit (A-division), KJ Nicholson (B-division) and Chris-Marie Horn (Junior Closed Champion).
