MOSSEL BAY NEWS - My brother often makes the comment that we golfers are a crazy bunch, especially when he hears that we have been out in all sorts of weather, chasing that elusive little white ball.
Well, last Thursday I preferred not to tell him about our golfing antics, as he might just have had me committed.
There was, however, a valid reason 90% of the girls did not abandon the game as we waited to tee off in gusts of 60km, and that was because the wonderful girls at Chas Everitt had gone to so much trouble decking the tables, laden with eats, for their sponsorship of this fun day.
The format for the day was matchplay, where the rules are a little different and you play directly against your opponent.
Thirty brave women were divided into red and blue teams, some of which had seldom if ever played matchplay, so there was a lot of learning to be done and in spite of the really difficult conditions, each game was taken very earnestly, for no one wanted to let their team down. The points are tallied up as each team completes their game, and of course this adds to the expectation as teams eagerly await results.
The final outcome was determined by the very last result and ended in a tie, so once again the only real winner was this great game we all love so much.
Our heartfelt thanks to Chantel and her team from Chas Everitt Mossel Bay for always being there for our ladies' golf.
