‘Kind soul’ - Family mourns Justyn Squires

MOSSEL BAY NEWS - “He was my dad. My motivation, the person whom I looked up to and wanted to be like more than anything in life,” says Kyle (25), one of Justyn Squires’ sons.

Justyn, the owner of the Anchor Vikings Restaurant in Bland Street, Mossel Bay, was tragically killed in a vehicle accident on Louis Fourie Road near Da Nova last Friday, 11 September.

He was driving along Louis Fourie with his wife, Camilla, and other son, Christopher, when the accident occurred just after midnight on Friday morning.

Camilla and Christopher were transported to nearby hospitals for further medical treatment.

She was discharged soon after, but Christopher had to undergo surgery at a hospital in George.

A spokesperson for the Southern Cape Police, Warrant Officer Chris Spies, says Justyn was found to have sustained serious injuries and was declared dead on the scene.

The exact circumstances behind the accident are not yet known and are still under investigation. Spies confirmed that the Mossel Bay Police are investigating a case of culpable homicide.

Kyle told Mossel Bay Advertiser he will always remember his father’s kind soul and the smile he had for everyone he met.

The family had moved to Mossel Bay in 2013 with the idea of opening their own restaurant.

Kyle says his father had always gravitated towards the restaurant industry and had run a Portuguese restaurant in eSwatini before they came to Mossel Bay.

“My dad stuck to the restaurant world because he loved food and loved making others happy,” says Kyle.

Justyn was also a member of the Die Hards Motorcycle Club in Mossel Bay. The club will be honouring him with a mass ride and memorial service next Thursday, 24 September.

The arrangements for his funeral have not yet been finalised.
