MOSSEL BAY NEWS - A Grade 11 learner of Sao Bras High School, Hlumelo Mboko, no doubt has a bright future in the financial sector!

Hlumelo recently travelled to Cape Town to represent his school at the Financial Sector Conduct Authority's (FSCA) Provincial Financial Literacy Speech Competition. 

Here he competed against seven other learners from different districts across the Western Cape and earned himself an impressive second place.

The school said it was incredibly proud to celebrate Hlumelo's outstanding achievement. The young future financier described going to the Mother City as a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

"It was a thrill meeting new people, staying at a hotel, socialising, and making friends throughout the competition. More than anything, the experience reminded me why financial literacy matters - understanding money and knowing how to manage it is a skill everyone should have."

He was accompanied throughout the event by his economics teacher, Lindle Bruintjies, and the economics subject advisor for the Eden and Central Karoo Education District, Clemizia Cupido, who proudly stood by him.

"The drive with Miss Bruintjies was also amazing, and I'm grateful for the memories and everything I learnt along the way. If I could do it all over again, I wouldn't change a single thing, except maybe the ending, because next time, I'm coming home with the win," said Hlumelo.

His second place earned him a cash prize, a tablet as well as a shopping voucher. His speech focused on the topic 'Building Financial Security: Saving, Credit, Debt, and Financial Planning for Long-term Resilience'.

"Through his dedication, preparation, confidence and knowledge, Hlumelo demonstrated a strong understanding of financial literacy and highlighted the importance of making responsible financial decisions for a secure future. His performance was a true reflection of his hard work and commitment," said the school.
