MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Traffic service statistics covering the period from May to July were shared during the most recent Mossel Bay Municipal Community Safety Forum.
Among other details, it was shared that Mossel Bay’s Municipal Traffic Services had attended to 35 accident scenes during this time.
Mossel Bay Advertiser asked the Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness Emergency Medical Services (EMS) how many accidents it had responded to over the same period.
“The department recorded 33 accident-related responses in the greater Mossel Bay area between 1 May and 27 July 2026. This included eight responses in May, 10 in June and 15 in July,” it said.
“Of the 33 recorded cases, 16 involved pedestrians, 14 involved light motor vehicles, two involved motorcyclists, and one involved a truck or heavy vehicle. The recorded locations included KwaNonqaba, central Mossel Bay, Voorbaai, Heiderand, Hartenbos, Little Brak River, D’Almeida, Reebok, Isinyoka, Santos Bay, sections of the N2, R102 and R328, and the Louis Fourie Road corridor.
“KwaNonqaba was the most frequently recorded area, appearing in eight of the recorded incidents. To protect patient confidentiality, no identifying patient information will be disclosed.”
Municipal traffic services also recorded the following:
• 2 796 Section 56 summonses were issued
• 19 Section 341 notices were issued
• 222 warrants of arrest were executed
• 5 941 vehicle roadworthiness checks were conducted
• 1 703 taxis were stopped and checked for roadworthiness
• 1 118 taxi-related offences were charged
• 5 arrests were made for driving under the influence
• 6 vehicles were impounded
• 6 vehicles were discontinued from use
• 661 general complaints were received
• a total of 242.25 hours of speed enforcement was undertaken.
