MOSSEL BAY NEWS - There have been some important changes in road closures for the upcoming Garden Route Triathlon, which is taking place in Mossel Bay on Sunday, 20 September.

The Mossel Bay Municipality said the changes are as follows: Marsh Street will no longer be closed; Bland Street, between Church Street and Kloof Street, will now be fully closed from 11:30 to 14:30. 

Previous information indicated that only the westbound lane would be closed.

The municipality said that the changes were confirmed by the event organiser and updated in the closure information. It said all other previously communicated closure times remain unchanged.

The event, beginning and ending at Santos Beach, brings athletes from across South Africa to Mossel Bay to compete in swimming, cycling and running disciplines.

Beach arrangements

• Swimming activities are expected to take place between 07:30 and 11:00

• The Santos Beach start and finish precinct will be closed from 05:30 until 16:30

• Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the event.

Key road closures

• Munro Street, between George Road and the Transnet Gate - full closure from 05:30 to 16:30

• Santos Beach start and finish precinct - full closure from 05:30 to 16:30

• George Road, between Church Street and Louis Fourie Road - Southbound lane closure from 06:30 to 14:30

• Beach Boulevard West will be affected from 06:30 to 13:30

• Louis Fourie Road, between George Road and the R328 - Southbound lane closure from 06:30 to 13:10

• R102, between Hartenbos and Great Brak River - lane closure from 05:30 to 13:30.

Running route restrictions: between 11:30 and 14:30

• Church Street, between George Street and Marsh Street

• Bland Street, between Church Street and Kloof Street,

• Kloof Street, between Marsh Street and the port entrance

• Point Road.
