MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The Mossel Bay Golf Club ladies' committee, with the very kind and generous help and sponsorship of the Chas Everitt girls, once again provided the ladies with a delightful golfing celebration of Christmas in July.
This year was a full-on celebration, an alliance team event subscribed to by all, with creative costumes, decorated buggies and cheerfully golf-adapted festive songs.
The format left a few less cheerful, with surprise rulings discovered at the end of each hole pinned to the flag, at times causing great consternation when some good performances were not rewarded because the "performer" was not the choice on the hole.
One of our golden oldies, Rosie Gerber, who played one of her best round in ages, was so unhappy when her one "good" score had to be multiplied by another, and as Murphy would have it, the "other" turned out to be a zero, that she simply refused to accept that her score multiplied by zero would always remain zero, no matter which way you look at it. Such is the enthusiasm of our golfers.
The winning team consisted of Christe-Mari Meyer, Marianda de Villiers, Marina Juta and Aletta Greyling, who amassed 83 points, thanks to lucky combinations and a few bonus points attained by C-M getting two nearest the pin wins.
Second place went to the team of Frouckje de Lange, Annette Meyer, Cynthia Zietsman and Rosie Gerber with 72 points, and also on 72 points was the third placed team of Shirley Greig, Hanli de Villiers, Ineke Botes and Laetitia Higgs.
Cynthia and Ineke both got bonuses for nearest to the pin.
Unfortunately, Ina Swart's eagle for five points on the second did not count for her team. Sorry Ina, but well done anyway.
The day was, however, enjoyed in the spirit it was intended, and a hearty meal at tables decorated to fit the occasion was provided by our lovely kitchen staff. We even got to give and receive presents and we only have a few short months to wait for the real McCoy.
