The Garden Route is admired by many for its breathtaking scenery and memorable outdoor activities but the adventure doesn’t end with an exhilarating black water tubing or zip lining experience in the Tsitsikamma Forest. It is very possible to enjoy those activities and still experience the beauty of a safari at the award-winning Garden Route Game Lodge.
Flanked by the incredible Langeberg mountain range, this private malaria-free game reserve offers an exceptional game viewing experience, with all members of the Big 5 thriving on the reserve. The Cape Mountain Leopard is an elusive animal so sightings are not as frequent but most certainly rewarding.
Garden Route Game Lodge was the first reserve in the Western Cape to reintroduce cheetah and from 2007 the threatened species has grown significantly in numbers.
Other animals to be seen on the reserve include herds of zebra, black wildebeest, caracal, Cape foxes, springbok, eland, impala and other various antelope species. For bird lovers, there are over 150 species to be seen around the reserve.
The accommodation at Garden Route Game Lodge is suited to couples, small groups and families. The well-appointed lodge rooms, chalets and suites feature an en-suite bathroom, air conditioning, luxury amenities, tea and coffee making facilities, satellite television, and a deck overlooking the landscaped gardens or game reserve.
The restaurant, poolside terrace, spa, children’s play area, a games room, outdoor boma and two swimming pools ensure that each guest is able to enjoy some relaxation during their stay.
The safari experience at Garden Route Game Lodge includes twice daily open-vehicle game drives conducted by professional guides, guided walks, night drives, picnics, reptile encounters and bird watching.
The reptile educational tour is loved by families because it allows one to view a deadly Black Mamba, Anaconda and 28 other snake species. Besides snakes, visitors can view and learn about Nile crocodiles, tortoises and rock monitors.
Children are also kept busy with the Kids on Safari programme offered at the lodge. Activities include one hour guided bush walks, fishing for Tilapia fish in some of the dams, visits to the skull garden to learn about the anatomy of wildlife, encounters with non-venomous snakes and cheetah tracking with a telemetry device.
