Police spokesperson Sergeant Mduduzi Nhlabathi said police were conducting a stop-and-search operation on the roads when they notice a red bakkie. Police stopped the vehicle and searched it. They found 26 boxes carrying crabs weighing about 300kg, said to be worth about R150 000.
“A man, 28, and a woman, 25, were arrested, as they did not have a permit to transport the crabs. It is believed the crabs were smuggled from Mozambique to be sold in shops around the country,” added Nhlabathi.
