NATIONAL NEWS - Three Tshwane metro police officers were arrested by Lyttelton police in Centurion on Sunday, while a fourth was nabbed by Pretoria North police on the same day.
They were all detained at the Sunnyside Police Station.
MMC for community safety Grandi Theunissen said the Tshwane metro had taken note of the arrests and would like to condemn the alleged unlawful acts perpetrated by some members of the TMPD.
“These four arrests are the latest in a string of arrests of TMPD officers for unlawful acts against the TMPD’s oath of office. While many TMPD members work diligently to combat crime and lawlessness, their efforts are constantly undermined by those who are ‘police officers’ by day and criminals at night,” he said.
“In the worst instances, crimes are even conducted while in uniform. I would like to make it clear that the City of Tshwane has a zero-tolerance approach to bribery, corruption and any illegal activity by those within our ranks.”
Theunissen said that the rotten apples will be identified, criminal charges laid where possible and full internal investigations will be carried out with disciplinary steps being taken and where warranted, dismissals will follow.
The public can report cases of misconduct to the TMPD investigation team on 083 657 2998 or by email to tmpdcomplaints@tshwane.gov.za
