MOSSEL BAY NEWS - What an evening of joyous sounds Wednesday, 22 October turned into when Point High School’s music department presented a prestigious fundraiser-concert “Wings”.
The evening kicked off with a fine array of snacks and refreshments at The Gannet restaurant. The beautifully decorated Dias Maritime Museum then played host to some serious up-and-coming talent.
It was a jubilant event with drums, pianists, keyboards, flutes, violins and glorious voices which provided everyone present with a glorious escape from the stresses of recent months.
Of particular note was how seasoned musicians cleverly supported and accompanied less-experienced students.
The Mossel Bay Arts Society is proud to have been associated with this utterly worthwhile event.
It was especially heart-warming to see the local professional community come out in strong support of this initiative. The idea of “Wings” - based on the lovely musical composition of the same name by Olive Sandilands - was conceived at the beginning of 2020 by music department head, Louise van Wyk-Visser, in conjunction with Dr André Leonard. The school’s principal, Mr Gouws, expressed his immense pleasure at the success of the concert and asserted that if the talent on display was anything to go by, the music department had a bright future ahead of it.
"A concert of this magnitude takes a lot of organising, financial support and actual physical work. A sincere thanks is extended to every person and business who, collectively, turned the concept into a reality. We can hardly wait for the next concert," a spokesperson for the Arts Society says.
