HARTENBOS NEWS - A break-in and theft took place at the Hartenbos River Resort on Saturday 23 August. The incident is believed to have occurred at about 22:00.
Phillip Vermaak, manager of the resort situated next to the Hartenbos River, told Mossel Bay Advertiser he was alerted of a suspicious person on the resort's grounds.
Vermaak and his son decided to investigate, which lead to a suspect being caught.
He then alerted police and Airwolf Security, who both responded to the scene.
"With assistance from Airwolf Security, he [the suspect] was searched and various stolen items were found on him. Upon further investigation, we determined it was stolen from a resident's caravan, who was out for the evening," says Vermaak.
Vermaak also shared CCTV footage with the Advertiser, which shows the suspect in the caravan.
Southern Cape Police Spokesperson Sergeant Chris Spies confirmed that a 39-year-old man was arrested in connection to the burglary. Detectives of the Da Gamaskop Police Station in Mossel Bay are investigating a case of house breaking and theft.
"According to reports available, items stolen during the incident which includes an air-gun were returned to the lawful owner," said Spies.
