Update
MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Na’min October, the 28-year-old man accused of the murder of Mossel Bay Barbarians rugby player Leroy Koopman (34) last June, pleaded guilty to culpable homicide in the Mossel Bay Regional Court on Tuesday 6 October. He is expected to be sentenced next month.
Koopman was fatally stabbed in the chest outside his home in Adriaans Avenue, KwaNonqaba, during the early hours of 15 June 2025.
The court previously heard that he and October were neighbours and had allegedly been arguing that morning.
October was arrested in connection with the death shortly afterwards. He was initially denied bail, but was later released from custody following a second bail application.
He was initially charged with murder but now faces a charge of culpable homicide. If convicted, he would face a lesser sentence than he would for a murder conviction.
The matter is expected to be finalised in the Mossel Bay Regional Court on 20 November.
