In one newsworthy event that took place on Monday 24 September, Trawlers Restaurant and Pub in Mossel Bay hosted a Guinness Book of World Records attempt by well-known stunt man Johan Behr. Johan Duvenhage, owner of Trawlers, has been Behr's sponsor for many years. During this attempt, Behr aimed at breaking the standing record to hold two 750cc motorcycles for more than 30 seconds, one with each arm.
The Set Free Stunt Riders were on site in all their glory, providing the first exciting change in plan, mounting their respective bikes, a Hurricane CBR 1000cc and Suzuki GSXR 1100cc.
"It's the first time we have worked with Johan, but I had an instant liking in him," says Chris van Rensburg from Set Free. "The only thing I was concerned about was that he won't be able to hold both bikes, as they were much bigger than initially planned."
Behr, however took it in his regular casual stride and soon the smell of burning rubber and an abundance smoke filled the air as an enthusiastic crowd spurred him on. The attempt was successful at a recorded time of 33,47. According to Behr, given his history of record attempts, the Guinness Book of Records contacts him from time to time to challenge long standing records.
Although in semi-retirement, Behr confesses with a smile there are at least two more record attempts to follow. Commenting on his latest achievement on Monday 24 September, he simply says: "No challenge at all. To me, it's just another day at the office!" The event was covered by SABC2 News and was also filmed for screening on the free Christian television channel, Kruiskyk.
