MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The Da Gamaskop police are investigating two business robberies that took place during the weekend.
In both incidents, the description of the suspects are the same.
The first incident took place at a service station in De Bakke at 02:42 on 6 July.
According to information, four unknown men dressed in blue overalls and wearing balaclavas approached the three petrol attendants on duty at Engen, De Bakke.
The suspects were armed with handguns and a shotgun. They demanded money and took an undisclosed amount of cash from the cash register.
They forced their way into the office and attempted to break into the safe on the premises. The alarm was activated, which caused the suspects to flee on foot. According to a police statement, it is unconfirmed whether the suspects made use of a getaway vehicle. An amount of cash and a cellphone were reported stolen. No injuries have been reported.
The second incident took place later on the same day at 18:00 at the Khan Superette, on the corner of Grunter and Barracuda streets, Extension 13.
Four suspects, wearing blue overalls and balaclavas and brandishing handguns and a shotgun, accosted the shop assistants, demanding money and cigarettes.
The suspects proceeded to hijack a vehicle in which they fled from the scene. Two women with their children were forced from the vehicle during the hijacking. The vehicle was later found abandoned in the Asla Park area. It has been reported that suspects fitting the same description were involved in two other criminal incidents during the weekend in the KwaNonqaba area.
No arrests have been made yet, but information is being followed up. Identikits of the suspects are being compiled and will be circulated soon to aid in the investigation.
