MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Construction activities at various Department of Transport and Public Works (DTPW) road infrastructure projects will shut down between 14 December and 9 January 2019.
Motorists can expect delays on roads which include various roads in the Groot Brak River vicinity as well as the R61 between Beaufort West and the Eastern Cape border; Saldanha to the Port Services Corridor; the R62 between Ashton and Montagu; the N12 between Oudtshoorn and De Rust; and the R44 in the Gouda vicinity.
On some routes, speed limits will be reduced through construction areas.
Traffic accommodation plans such as temporary signage, lighting and flag operators will be in place for safety reasons and to facilitate the flow of traffic. Motorists are encouraged to take note of the contact number on project signboards for queries and roadside emergencies.
"We call on drivers to always obey the rules of the road. Only overtake when it is safe, never on a blind rise, and never on a solid white line. Plan your route in advance to include stops at safe places along the way. On long journeys, take a 10-minute break outside your vehicle every two hours," said the Communication Officer of the Department of Transport and Public Works, Byron la Hoe.
