MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Provincial traffic officials had a successful week starting on 12 March.
The officials received a complaint from a member of the public regarding a person carrying/transporting illegal narcotic drugs.
Provincial Inspector Matthews alerted other officials immediately and went after the motorcycle suspected to be involved.
Inspector Matthews attempted to stop the motorcycle but the driver failed to stop at his command and a high-speed pursuit ensued.
Provincial Inspector Van Rensburg, Inspector Wildscut and Inspector Wright were nearby, and assisted in this pursuit. The suspect continued driving. He drove at high speed on the N2 in the direction of PetroSA, even into the lane of oncoming traffic at times.
Inspector Van Rensburg and Wildscut managed to pass the motorcycle and attempted several times to stop the vehicle by using minimum force. Eventually, the unit managed to block the motorcycle by means of their three vehicles.
The driver was apprehended and arrested by Provincial Inspector Matthews for reckless driving and failing to stop for traffic officials.
Upon further inspection, the driver seemed to possess allegedly illegal narcotics; he was charged accordingly.
He was also charged for allegedly driving a vehicle while under the influence of a narcotic drug and a blood specimen was taken from him.
Later in the week, on 16 March, Provincial Inspector Van Rensburg noticed the same motorcycle on the N2 again.
The driver was stopped along the N2 and refused to be searched, even though this time he stopped for traffic officials.
It was the same driver of the previous incident on 12 March. Back-up was called in and a search was conducted.
Again, seemingly illegal narcotic drugs were found on this person. This driver was arrested for allegedly being in possession of an illegal narcotic drug (heroin) and a case was registered at the KwaNonqaba SAPS. These officials made more arrests during the week heading into the Buffalo Rally.
