MOSSEL BAY NEWS - There was a healthy, competitive spirit at the Tsogo Sun Moves for Life annual educator buzz event, hosted this week at the Garden Court Hotel.
Teachers from six primary schools in Mossel Bay attended and judging by the enthusiastic chatter while they were solving chess-related problems, it was clearly an event enjoyed by all.
Through this national programme, Tsogo Sun plays a vital part in improving the maths and science results of learners.
It rests on the premise that research has shown that playing chess enhances mathematical, tactical and strategic thinking skills in young people.
To deliver this programme, Tsogo Sun collaborates with Moves For Life, a national non-profit organisation (trust) with the endorsement of the Department of Education and affiliated to the International Garry Kasparov Foundation.
After the formal training session, teachers were engaged in practical activities, which included a fancy dress challenge, the theme being Dress like a Chess Queen.
Diaz Primary walked away with the laurels for best team spirit and best-dressed group, while individual prizes were also awarded.
