GREAT BRAK RIVER NEWS - The Southern Cape Police made five drug-related arrests this week, one of which was in Great Brak River.
According to police spokesperson Warrant Officer Chris Spies, these arrests were made and Mandrax, khat and dagga were confiscated during some operations conducted near Laingsburg and in Great Brak, in the police’s concerted efforts to rid communities of drugs.
Acting on some information, at about 21:00 on Wednesday 25 March, the Great Brak Police stopped a vehicle transporting drugs along Gesiggie Avenue, Wolwedans.
A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 100 Mandrax tablets and 15g tik, which were confiscated. A 49-year-old man was arrested on a charge of possession of drugs.
The other arrests were carried out early this morning, Friday 27 March. “The Laingsburg Police conducted a vehicle checkpoint along the N1, where they stopped a passenger bus. A search of the bus led to the discovery of two bags containing khat, for which the police arrested three men, aged 41, 53 and 57. A 25-year-old passenger was also arrested after a small quantity of dagga was found in his possession,” said Spies.
All those arrested will appear in court once charged. “These arrests and confiscations form part of ongoing midweek operations. Similar operations will be sustained to eradicate substance abuse that contributes to serious and violent crimes.”
