MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Winter will be here soon and the national electricity supply situation is dire.
Mossel Bay municipality announced today that more areas in Mossel Bay, previously not affected, will be added to the municipality's load-limiting programme.
The municipality released a statement, noting: "The municipality has done everything possible within the legal framework to protect as many businesses as possible from load shedding to prevent job losses and benefit the local economy."
Municipal manager Colin Puren says the municipality was asked by Eskom to apply load limiting to more areas. "The municipality's Infrastructure Department has progressed with upgrading the telemetry system and processes. More areas can, therefore, be added to the municipality's load limiting programme, as per Eskom’s request."
Implementation is expected to be by Monday, 5 June.
Residents should follow the municipality's load-shedding notifications on the municipal Facebook page, www.facebook.com/mosselbaymun and/or the municipal Collab Citizen smartphone app, accessible at Apple Play Store, Huawei AppGallery and Google Play Store.
Puren says this arrangement will continue until further notice as per Eskom's request to the municipality and in terms of NRS 048:9 - a code of practice that provides the national protocol for the management of system emergencies during severe load constraints, to prevent electricity blackouts.
The areas that will be affected have not yet been revealed.
