MOSSEL BAY NEWS - "One in four women is a victim of domestic violence. A woman is killed every six hours by an intimate partner in South Africa.
"This is why I am supporting the 16 Days of Activism against Women and Child Abuse."
These are the words of Vuyo Mfumbe, a local youth developer, model and entertainer.
He says: "The objective of this campaign is to attract all South Africans to be active participants in the fight to eliminate violence against women and children, hence the theme is: Count me in.
"We should combine technology, social media, customs, arts and culture, business, religion and activism to draw attention to the many ways violence and abuse can affect the lives of people in all communities around the world."
Mfumbe notes that violence occurs in many forms. Apart from physical, emotional and financial violence, "violence of poverty", he adds.
"As a society we help silent victims to talk about abuse and ensure they get help and report child abuse.
"Today, 23 November, we will be marching against abuse in high heels from KwaNonqaba Mall at 09:00 and everyone is welcome to join us. It is time to break the silence stand up and speak out about the pain we feel," he urges.
He encourages the community to work hand in hand with community policing forums (CPFs) to fight crime.
"On Saturday we are going to perform our Say No to Women and Children Abuse act. It's all about creating awareness in the community." For more information on how you can also use your voice to say no to violence, call 064 401 3751.
Mfumbe is a former Mr Western Cape.
