MOSSEL BAY NEWS & VIDEO - Community representatives of KwaNonqaba in Mossel Bay wrote an email to the municipality with regards to the construction of a parking facility across from the kwaNonqaba Mall in Mayixhale Street, facing Shoprite, as well as a pedestrian crossing on the busy street.
Several meetings took place and last week representatives met delegates from the office of the executive mayor, Alderman Harry Levendal.
Present were municipal spokesperson Colin Puren, Councillor Niklaas Booisen, Councillor Anton Dellemijn and a Mr Myburg, to make final deliberations regarding the matters.
They have reached consensus that there is a need for the pedestrian crossing, due to a number of accidents in the area identified. The municipality delegates visited the site last week and decided on the necessary action to preclude loss of life.
According to Councillor Thabo President Mvumvu the KwaNonqaba community representatives are thankful for the municipal representatives' visiting the site and grateful they put on hold other duties to ensure that the Bathopele principle (People First) applied.
"We are looking forward to hearing from the municipality soon, as to when work will commence," said Mvumvu.

This section of Mayixhale Street, opposite the kwaNonqaba MALL is frequently crossed by pedestrians, while taxis also use this as a drop-off zone for mall customers.
