MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Hillcrest Secondary School's top achiever, Ayakha Gulwa, said although she had expected to be the school's top achiever, she had not expected marks as high as she achieved.
With seven distinctions and an average of 92%, Gulwa said she had studied hard for these outstanding results, her dedication and commitment starting in Grade 10.
"I studied hard and always made sure I prepared all my study material each term," she said.
"I trained from Grade 10 in how to study. I attended all of my classes and I always asked my teachers for help if there was something I did not understand," said Gulwa.
She started Grade 8 just as the world went into lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Gulwa said her first and second years of high school were a struggle.
"I don't know how I got through but in Grade 10, it all picked up," she said.
Gulwa will be leaving Mossel Bay at the end of January to study law at the University of the Western Cape.
"I have already been accepted. I am extremely excited," she said.
