MOSSEL BAY NEWS - A children's regatta was held in front of what was the premises of the Mossel Bay Yacht and Boat Club (MBYBC) on Saturday afternoon, as part of the Dias & Port Festival.
The premises now has a new tenant, the Mossel Bay Waterfront Company. The MBYBC had to vacate the premises at the end of January.
The regatta was organised by the NPO, the Skipper Foundation, of which sailing coach Elfie Holden is one of the directors.
Holden said: "We had a good turnout - 45 children. They could not all sail at the same time. Some waited on the jetty under umbrellas for their turn. The first group sailed and then we changed around to give all the children a chance.
"The wind was light, which made it possible for even the beginners to have a sail. We sailed upwind, then downwind. We had two races."
All the boats were used - RS Teras, Q'bas, Toppers and Argos.
"The children had a good time; all of them got really wet in the rain, but the rain was really welcome," Holden added.
She said children from nine to 18 years old participated for free and each received a free boerewors roll.
Before the regatta, the children went to the Dias Museum where the 30th anniversary of the museum was celebrated.
Some of the 45 children who showed up waited on the jetty under umbrellas for their turn.
The first group sailed and then they changed around to give all the children a chance.
