MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The death of an elderly man and his 92-year-old sister at Pinnacle Point Estate last week has been described by the general manager as a freak accident.
The incident happened on Wednesday, 18 March, at 18:00.
According to Carl van der Linde, the estate general manager, an 86-year-old male resident of the estate took his sister (92), his wife and a domestic worker on a sightseeing drive in a four-seater golf cart. While driving down a steep incline on the estate, the male driver lost control of the golf cart.
According to Van der Linde, the golf cart had no visible damage, nor did the driver and the passengers show any notable external injuries.
"We are very fortunate to have doctors among our residents who responded promptly to assist, along with the emergency services. The injured man and his sister were given medical treatment at the scene of the accident and were taken to hospital for further care."
Van der Linde says he was shocked to learn that the male driver and his sister passed away shortly after the accident. The 92-year-old woman died in hospital on 18 March and while being transferred to hospital in George, her 86-year-old brother passed away in the ambulance in the early hours of 19 March.
"Our most sincere condolences go to the family. We commend the emergency services who responded so swiftly to assist."
