MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Local teacher Anton Siebert is leaving for Thailand on Monday to enter the pageant of his life so far, Mr Global.
He said: "I'm hugely excited about going to Thailand because for more than three years I've worked really hard for the opportunity to represent my country overseas."
Preparation
He is in Johannesburg today for his final preparation for the contest and then on Monday morning he leaves for Thailand.
The Mr Global winners from more than 30 countries will take part in this major international competition.
Anton, who is a teacher at Diaz Primary School in Extension 8, won the Mr Global South Africa national competition on 3 August. He beat many contestants, many of whom hailed from large cities such as Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban.
Final
He explains: "The final is taking place in Bangkok on 6 October, but we entrants will be in Bangkok for a few days and then go to Hua Hin from 28 September until 4 October, when we return to Bangkok for the last work before the final."
When asked what unique qualities he brings to the contest, as a competitor, he says: "The thing that is unique about me is that there is only one of me.
"The Lord has already made me unique, as I am.
"I must just go and live out my heart, soul and humanity and show everyone it's not only about the outer appearance.
'Inner self'
"What is very important is your inner self, because looks fade and cannot change others' lives. Your heart, soul and concern for people change their lives.
"These, not your looks, leave an eternal imprint on someone's life."
Anton has never been to Thailand before and is looking forward to experiencing the country and the culture.
"The final consists of interviews, workshops, videos and photoshoots, rehearsals for the gala show which will be streamed live across the world, the sashing ceremony, meeting international diplomats and public appearances."
Flights
The Mr Global competition pays for the entrants' flights, but Anton says his sponsors assisted him with all his clothes for the competition, his suits and "everything I need to represent our country, South Africa, with pride".
He noted: "I can only say thank you, from my heart and soul, to every dear person and sponsor for all the support. Without you, this would not be possible."
