MOSSEL BAY NEWS - With Day Zero fast approaching, Capetonians need help.
Social media pages such as Mosselbaai op sy BESTE and the Round Table - Mossel Bay 32 have appealed to locals to donate water to the people of Cape Town.
Donations of bottled water, preferably sealed containers if possible, may be dropped off during office hours at Vredebest Removals in Voorbaai before Tuesday, 6 February.
If the container is not sealed, please ensure it's clean and indicate on the container that it is tap water.
This is necessary for health and safety reasons. Vredebest Removals has generously offered to transport the donated water.
While the entire Western Cape faces a water crisis, the premier of the Western Cape, Helen Zille, this week said the drought in the province had escalated "from a threat to an imminent crisis".
The main dam that supplies Mossel Bay town with drinking water, the Wolwedans Dam, is currently approximately 80% full and taps in town are not about to run dry.
With the availability of both the desalination plant, the reverse osmosis plant as well as a number of boreholes, Mossel Bay can supply sufficient drinking water to residents, but that is not to say residents should waste water.
