MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Eleven employees at ACVV Old age Home and Frail care facility from Seebries received accredited training recently. The facility is home to 80 elderly residents.
According to the Act on Older Persons 2016 it is now compulsory that all employees that care for frail or disabled clients must have undergone accredited training.
Amanda Prinsloo, Manager of Seebries, decided to empower some of their care workers that have been working for them between six and 10 years.
They identified 11 care workers that are permanently employed but never had the opportunity to receive accredited training in Home Base Care.
Ukuphela Training and Support Services, an accredited training provider, was appointed to provide the training for these 11 Mossel Bay women.
This was done during the month of June, and they have successfully completed their training.
On Thursday, 25 August Ineke Goosen from Ukuphela and Prinsloo handed out certificates during a ceremony held for the women.
"Seebries is very proud of all of them because this was done under challenging circumstances. Some of them worked the night shift and still attend classes afterwards.
"They worked very hard, showed commitment and study after hours to complete the training, but it was all worth it. Some of them were very nervous in the beginning because they were in school more than 20 years ago and have not studied since then. Their only passion is to care for their patients. Now they are proper qualified care workers with a legal accredited certificate in Home Based care with 18 credits," Prinsloo said.
