MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Members of the police, Mossel Bay Fire, Rescue and Disaster Management Services, the Department of Correctional Services, community policing forums and neighbourhood watches in the greater Mossel Bay area hosted a Women's Day "celebration" of a different kind.
On Friday, 6 August they gathered in numbers at a road block on Louis Fourie Road for an awareness campaign on crime prevention, Covid-19 regulations, as well as gender-based violence.
Station commander of the Da Gamaskop Police, Colonel Khutala Masakala addressed the participants during the opening parade.
"We cannot forget history. We have to commemorate the sacrifice of South African women of 1956 and beyond. Due to the pandemic, we cannot host the normal type of event, but this doesn't mean that we mustn't to anything. We are still fighting against crime, such as gender-based violence. There is also the battle against the Covid-19 pandemic.
"Women, as before in history, have to take the lead and this is one way of doing so," she said.
