MOSSEL BAY NEWS - "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit." Romans 15:13
Before New Year, my whole family was in our living room, listening to the announcement about the regulations that were being put in place and how the next few weeks would look.
As the president spoke, doubt crept into me for the first time since Covid-19 started.
I thought we were past the virus. The New Year was coming, meaning everything that happened last year stayed in 2020. I know it sounds silly, but I honestly believed this. But this was not so, and I was actually afraid of what the future had in store.
I have this app on my phone, where I get a scripture verse daily.
I picked up my phone, and the verse was: “I sought God and He answered me and delivered me from my fears.” Psalm 34:4.
So I went to my room and sought God. I put music on and it was not even two minutes when I realised my eyes had been off God. For a split second I focused on the world and its problems and not God, and that was long enough for the enemy to come in and steal my peace. When we focus on God, our eyes are not on our problems; our full attention is on God.
By focusing on God, we are trusting Him. He is in control and whatever happens, I will be okay, because God has got this. This is a simple principle, but I think we overlook it sometimes. We make it much more complicated than it actually is.
When I put music on the first song was No Fear by Kari Jobe.
Now I always have my worship music on shuffle, so I didn’t choose this specific song. Out of 96 songs, that one came on. The song and the verse for the day were not coincidences.
When I realised I had shifted my focus from God, I asked forgiveness and realigned my focus on Him and not the things in front of me. Thus, automatically climbing back into the boat. Because remember, we cannot be in the same boat with God if our eyes are not on Him.
As I was leaping for a pen and paper to write this lesson down, my fear and worries vanished. Because as I focused on God, peace came.
Guys, our future might look uncertain and confusing, maybe frustrating and scary, but God has this amazing peace, and He gives it out freely.
Take it and focus on God, instead of what lies in front of you. This is just my short testimony of God’s goodness, and I pray that this will give you hope. Love and blessings.
