MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The drought has left farmers and producers in a stranglehold with water supplies that are drastically diminishing.
Because the catchment areas are very dry, this means that the dam and river levels hardly rise if it does rain.
Call for help
Mossel Bay Executive Deputy Mayor, Alderman Dirk Kotzé and Speaker, Alderman Petru Terblanche ask residents to donate packaged 5-liter containers of drinking water and to drop it at the Mossel Bay fire Department on Louis Fourie Road.
The water will be distributed to the agricultural communities of Herbertsdale, Hamelkop, Ruiterbos and surrounding areas that are currently experiencing the worst drought.
Thursday, November 7
With the help of several Mossel Bay neighborhood watch groups, local businessmen and community organisations, the water will be distributed to the various communities next Thursday, November 7.
"We in town may conveniently open a tap for potable water. We can hardly imagine the distress that a farmer, his family, and their community experience when the taps are running dry. It is heartbreaking to see the drought conditions on the farms in our immediate area," says Alderman Kotzé.
Alderman Koté and Alderman Terblanche are calling on residents to once generously contribute water.
"Mossel Bay has always contributed when asked to do so. We now ask the community to reach out to the agricultural community and donate water," asks Alderman Terblanche.
The Mossel Bay Fire Department's offices are available 24 hours a day for deliveries.
