MOSSEL BAY NEWS - A Telkom client who claims to have waited more than 60 days for any feedback on his application for the installation of a telephone line on behalf of his 92-year-old mother, is at his wits' end.
Andy Wood also says that, collectively, he has waited a total of 21 hours in the queue at the Telkom shop at the Langeberg Mall in Voorbaai.
"I have cooled down now, but it is truly unacceptable to be treated this way."
Wood claims that during his visits to the Telkom shop mentioned, he was not treated with respect by the manager.
"My enquiries have been met with a nonchalant 'it's got nothing to do with you' when I asked about my mother's installation."
Wood does mention that a more senior manager at Telkom did call him during his extended waiting period, but when he wanted to return the call to follow up on the progress, when he dialled the number, he heard on the line: "This number does not exist."
Wood is also concerned that when he once again visited the Telkom shop in Langeberg Mall, many elderly people were waiting in line.
He claims that staff at the shop treated an elderly woman rudely when her face mask was not covering her nose. "The staff member told the lady in a rude voice 'cover your bl**** nose'. That was too much for me to hear."
Wood mentions that a 96-year-old woman, waiting in line during his visit to the branch last week, called out to him and asked for his help. "She said 'please help us because it is our third day waiting in this line'." He said he was concerned about the elderly being so exposed during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Mossel Bay Advertiser made several attempts to call the Telkom shop at Langeberg Mall, without success.
Enquiries were sent via email to the Telkom media desk for comment. At the time of the Mossel Bay Advertiser going to print, receipt of the email was acknowledged, but feedback is yet to be received.
