MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Many people in the Mossel Bay area rely on public transport.
But, it seems as if the spreading of the Coronavirus now also has an effect on the taxi industry in Mossel Bay.
The Codeta Taxi Association's Andile Kanyi says the association has written a letter to Transport Minister Bonginkosi Madikizela, asking the state to assist the taxi industry by providing it with the necessary measures to prevent the virus from spreading.
Kanyi says Codeta has asked Madikizela to provide taxi associations with hand sanitiser, gloves and face masks. "We are scared the virus will affect our drivers and our commuters." Kanyi says Codeta has since cancelled all meetings as it usually has more than 100 members who attend.
"We are in constant communication with our drivers and have asked them to take precautionary measures, such as practicing personal hygiene and washing their hands regularly."
He said these were some of the measures they would be taking in tackling the virus which has resulted in the activation of a state of national disaster by President Cyril Ramaphosa.
"Our business is definitely already being affected by the Coronavirus and people are scared and uncertain of using public transport."
