MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Several queries from informal traders about whether they may trade despite the national lockdown period indicatee the need for clarity.
Mossel Bay Municipality asks informal traders to heed the call by President Ramaphosa to follow the lockdown rules and to cooperate within the following guidelines:
Existing spaza and/or house shops as well as fruit and vegetable shops which have a valid certificate of compliance from the garden route district municipality as well as a valid business licence from Mossel Bay Municipality will be permitted to sell food during the lockdown period.
No products apart from food may be sold.
The above mentioned entities will only be permitted to operate between 08:00 and 18:00 and must maintain all social dancing and related measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
They must also ensure their customers keep a distance of 1,5 metres from one another and must supply hand sanitisers to customers during the trading process.
The above mentioned certificate and licence must always be available during operating hours and when requested by a municipal law enforcement officer or the SA Police.
Informal trading may only take place at council-approved trading sites.
No informal trading will be permitted any other place within the Mossel Bay municipal area.
Licence holders must be present during trading. Selling, ceding or exchange of licences will not be allowed, and all applicable legislation and policies must be adhered to.
No new house shops or informal trading applications will be considered during the lockdown period.
Considering the national lockdown regulations, the sale of cigarettes, tobacco products and alcohol are not permitted.
The sale of any products other than non-prepared food products are not allowed, except for airtime.
The sale of arts and crafts are prohibited during the Covid-19 lockdown period.
The sale of shisa nyama is also not permitted.
Traders should also note that should these rules not be followed a licence may be revoked immediately.

Any appeals regarding a suspension or withdrawal will be dealt with by the Municipal Manager, Adv Thys Giliomee.
