MOSSEL BAY NEWS - One of the interesting activities organised in Mossel Bay for Women's Day was a water orientation exercise for teenage girls at Santos Beach.
The Mossel Bay Surf Lifesaving Club (MBSLC) organised the opportunity for girls from Toekoms and Powertown.

Also, girls from KwaNonqaba, who are being trained by the Oceans Research Foundation in Mossel Bay, attended.
Tracey Reinecke of MBSLC said the exercise was an opportunity for the club to contribute to communities and the club needed more girls, so it was a chance to introduce girls to lifesaving.
The girls were each given a Malibu board and each had a lifeguard looking after her.
Although MBSLC is based at Dias Beach, the exercise was held at Santos, because the water is calmer there than at Dias.
Reinecke said the MBSLC lifeguards had the chance to use their teaching skills. Also, it was good experience for the rescue lifeguards in the club who do not often use Malibu boards. Competitive sport lifesavers have more experience on the boards.
The MBSLC is a registered non-profit organisation. If you have a heart for swimming, lifesaving, coaching children or fundraising and would like to volunteer your services to the club, email secretary@mbslc.org.
On Sunday, 24 July, the club held an awareness day, in line with World Drowning Prevention Day, observed on July 25. There was a good turnout of children. Demonstrations by medics and the NSRI were given and information on preventing drownings was shared.
It takes skill to use a Malibu board.
