MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The 2022 kick off for IKhaya community development, sport and recreation centre was hosted on Mayixhale Street in KwaNonqaba today, 29 January.
Despite the heat, participants and supporters were enthusiastic to be there.
The programme featured street soccer and netball, as well as a fun run early this morning.
During the boxing demonstration, Lajola Thole, founder of iKhaya and former boxer explained that part of the training is also to empower youngsters to be safer on the street.
An energetic aerobic demonstration was also given. Dance groups performed traditional dances.

One of the highlights of the day was presented by the innovative Onke Mathanzima, a Grade 10 learner from Indwe Secondary School. Mathanzima not only models cars out of wire, but makes them fully battery operated to even play music.

Executive Mayor of Mossel Bay, Alderman Cliffie Bayman attended the event on behalf of the mayor, as said that knowing the challenges in the community, the most important focus remains on developing human capital, starting where it is most needed – among the youth.
“What I am seeing here makes my heart happy. We would like to see that IKhaya becomes the cornerstone of youth development in KwaNonqaba.”
