MOSSEL BAY NEWS - A group of women who are part of a sewing project facilitated by the Mossel Bay Municipality, are hard at work creating a clothing line, called Simply Shpeff!
Most of these women, who are being trained at the Thusong Centre in KwaNonqaba, have never sewn before.
Their trainer, Gail Lawrence- Appiah, says they are doing exceedingly well.
She reports that the budding seamstresses have completed several garments to date. Training is done twice weekly.
These garments will be on sale at the Thusong Centre on 30 September, when a market concludes the centre's service delivery outreach week. Stalls at the market are free and enquiries can be made to Nomboniso Kana-Jika, the manager at the Thusong Centre (njika@mosselbay.gov.za or 044 606 5129).
"One of the ladies was so excited when she completed a garment all by herself. It is wonderful to see the pride and empowerment," says Lawrence-Appiah.
The sewing project is part of the Mossel Bay Municipality Directorate of Community Services projects to grow social regeneration. This is one of the five pillars of the municipality's GROW strategy.
