GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - The South African Local Government Association (SALGA) Western Cape will hold its Provincial Conference at Oubaai Hotel, George from 18 to 19 January convened by its Provincial Executive Committee (PEC).
The SALGA Constitution makes provision for the convening of provincial conferences, which is the highest decision-making structure of SALGA in the province.
In line with its Constitution, the conference will amongst others:
• Review progress made since the 2016 conference;
• Define a programme of action for the Term of Office;
• Elect the SALGA Western Cape leadership.
The provincial conference will be attended by more than 300 delegates from municipalities, national and provincial government, academic institutions, partners and stakeholders within the local government sector as well as business and the media.
As part of the programme, SALGA Provincial Director of Operations Khalil Mullagie will share with the delegates a five-year term highlights for 2016-2021, and Senior Manager for Strategic Planning and Reporting Pauline Matsuang will outline the five-year strategic framework (2022-2027).
Mullagie said the conference will serve as a platform where leaders gather to analyse the state of local government at a strategic and holistic level.
“We hope that through this significant gathering, all groups involved will also embed sustainable long-lasting change in our towns and cities, and for the people who live within them, as we forge towards a successful post-Covid recovery."
The conference will start at 09:00 at the Oubaai Hotel.
