MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Photographs circulated on social media, showing food parcels loaded into what looks like a municipal traffic vehicle parked in the street in KwaNonqaba, sparked debate and allegations of theft.
The Mossel Bay Advertiser enquired to the KwaNonqaba Police, who confirmed that no criminal charges had been laid following the incident.
The Mossel Bay Municipality also, on enquiry, issued a full statement today to give clarity regarding the incident. “Municipal traffic officials were deployed with their vehicles to assist in deliveries to the beneficiaries of emergency food relief parcels. The vehicles had to be deployed since some of the trucks used during delivery could not make their way through some of the narrower streets,” said municipal spokesperson, Nickey le Roux.
Le Roux said municipal employees photographed both the beneficiaries of the food relief parcels, as well as the person's SA identity document and dropped an electronic PIN as proof of delivery as part of the verification process.
