MOSSEL BAY NEWS - With spring and warmer weather just around the corner, an open day was held for Mossel Bay children who wished to see what it entails to be a nipper.
The event was held on Sunday, 2 September at Dias Beach.
About 42 children enjoyed the beautiful day on the beach while parents supported the fundraising effort both through the supplying of and the buying of boerewors rolls.
"Nipper" is the term used to identify a young member of the lifesaving movement aged seven to 14 years old.
Lifesaving South Africa’s nippers are an important part of the organisation and the Mossel Bay Lifesaving Club is specifically involved with the training and developing of Mossel Bay youth in the primary principles of surf and pool safety.
Nippers are really the "nursery" for the lifeguards of tomorrow. The lifesaving club’s main function is to teach the youngsters respect for the water and give them confidence in the aquatic environment (especially the sea).
