MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The Mossel Bay Junior Town Council elective conference took place on 3 August under the watchful eye of the Independent Electoral Commission.
The junior town council is a civil society organisation that functions under the auspices of the Mossel Bay Municipality.
They consist of four representatives of the six high schools within the Mossel Bay municipal area.
Their main objectives are:
- To establish an organisation that will represent the aspirations of the youth of Mossel Bay and to offer the youth a mouthpiece with regard to civil matters.
- To stimulate the junior councillors and their co-learners' interest in matters regarding their area.
- To develop the junior councillors' leadership in order to encourage an active interest in civil, administrative and communal matters.
- To execute the objectives of the junior council by embarking on projects that will be beneficial to the community and especially to the youth.
- To stimulate a mutual understanding and appreciation between schools in and around Mossel Bay and to promote relationship between the different language groups.
- To embark on any necessary programmes or projects in order to promote the above objectives.
- To promote mutual respect and an understanding in the community that is based on good relationships.

The 2018/2019 junior councillors are:
- Junior Mayor: Renique Lottering, Great Brak Rivier Secondary School
- Junior Deputy Mayor: Courtney Tarentaal, Sao Bras High School
- Junior Speaker: Yanga Butani, Hillcrest Secondary School
- Junior Municipal Manager: Davene Anderson, Sao Bras High School
- Junior Executive Member for Sport & Recreation: Caslin Frans, Great Brak Rivier Secondary School
- Junior Executive Member for Community Services: Lara Ekstron, Point High School
- Junior Executive Member for Youth Matters: Garron Theunissen, Sao Bras High School.
