MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Sentencing in the Naledi Phangindawo case will take place in the Mossel Bay Regional court on 21 January 2022.
Mlondi Ntlangulela (34) is accused of axing Naledi to death in June last year. Witnesses told police he attacked Naledi without any warning and hacked her repeatedly over her entire body, including her face.
Police spokesperson, Captain Malcolm Pojie says he fled the scene when the ambulance arrived. Naledi was declared dead on arrival at Mossel Bay provincial hospital.
Ntlangulela later handed himself over to the Lwandle Police, Cape Town. He has been in custody since then.
On Friday, 3 December, state prosecutor Corné Pretorius finished his closing arguments.
Yashika Phangindawo (31), sister of murdered Naledi Phangindawo (26), talks to state prosecutor, Corné Pretorius, at the Mossel Bay Regional Court.
Pretorius told the court the state expected the court to hand down a sentence of more than 15 years' imprisonment.
In this specific case, the minimum sentence is 15 years.
Pretorius said the accused "used a lot of violence" to kill Naledi. She had multiple wounds over her body and was violently murdered.
Pretorius asked the court to add another five years to the minimum of 15 years' jail sentence.
Naledi's family was at court. They told the Mossel Bay Advertiser they wanted Ntlangulela to be sentenced to jail for as long as possible. "He took away the mother of two children, our sister and daughter."
