MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The Mossel Bay Municipality urges members of the public to make use of the molok garbage facility in the correct manner.
During the past weekend, damage to a molok in Heiderand was reported.
The inner lining of a molok was burnt and melted as a result of hot matter being thrown into the facility.
The moloks are for the following:
- Compactable domestic refuse only
- Bulky waste which includes cardboard, glass, metal, wood, tyres, fire extinguishers etc. should not go in a moloks.
- Gas canisters, aerosols, oils, petroleum products should not go into a moloks
- Building rubble should not go into moloks
- Green waste should not go into a molok
Furthermore the municipality request residents to refrain from the doing the following:
If a molok is full, do not place refuse bags on the ground next to the moloks. This waste can be taken to the nearest transfer station where it can be disposed of free of charge. Bulky waste is also accepted at transfer stations.
Do not place recyclables (cardboard, glass, paper, plastic) next to the moloks. The municipality collects recyclables from households. If residents and / or business have large quantities of recyclables they are welcome to call the municipality and collection can be arranged.
Do not place green waste next to molok. The municipality does weekly curbside collection of green waste in green bags. Green waste is also accepted at our transfer stations free of charge.
Doing any of the above is considered illegal dumping and you can be fined or prosecuted in the municipal court.
