MOSSEL BAY NEWS & VIDEO - The municipal Traffic Department opened today, Monday 1 June, to offer licensing services as level three of the Covid-19 lockdown started.
There was a long queue of motorists. They were even lined up in Marsh Street for several metres outside the Traffic Department.
In a statement on its website, the Mossel Bay Municipality noted that queues had been forming since 05:00 on Monday, 1 June at the local licensing offices.
The municipality reminded residents that licences, driver's licences, temporary driver's licences, motor licences, temporary permits, roadworthy certificates and professional driving permits that expired between 26 March and 31 May and could not be renewed due to the Covid-19 national disaster and consequent restriction, are still considered valid for 90 days from 1 June.
The municipality stated:
• Mossel Bay Municipality's traffic department's offices are open to the public from 08:00 to 15:00. All precautions have been taken to safeguard the public, but residents must please note that no one will be allowed into the offices without the mandatory face masks. Residents will be requested to disinfect their hands and their temperature measurement, as well as personal details, will be recorded in a register as required by law. It serves as a tracing mechanism should anyone who visited the offices test positive for the coronavirus.
• Please note that no new driver licence applications will be accepted immediately. The backlog will first be eradicated. To meet the social distancing requirement, a limited number of persons per session will be allowed for learner licence tests.
• Initially, there may be queues. Mossel Bay Municipality, therefore, asks residents to be patient and thanks visitors to our offices for their patience and tolerance.
