MOSSEL BAY NEWS - A Mighty Men Eastern Cape conference was held in Jeffrey's Bay from 18 to 20 March and a number of Mossel Bay men attended.
Mighty Men conferences were founded by well-known South African evangelist and farmer Angus Buchan.
Johan Schreuder of the NG Moeder-gemeente in Mossel Bay, said: "Because of the limit on numbers due to the Covid-19 rules, there were fewer people than usual at a Mighty Men conference."
Angus Buchan could not attend because of his full schedule, but there were high profile speakers at the event.
Schreuder, who is a businessman in Mossel Bay, said: "The overall message was that fathers and sons must take up their places in families. Fathers must be the head of the home. It is no use their having a bank account full of money. At home their wives are wanting a husband and their children, a father."

There were live streams of the conference during the weekend. A post by the organisers on the Mighty Men Eastern Cape Facebook page on 20 March reads: "It's hard to find the words. Wow. We are grateful for every single person who helped make this Mighty Men conference a success. Everyone who was here could feel and see the Spirit moving ...."
A post on 19 March reads: "Another amazing altar call last night.... So many men gave their hearts to Jesus, Hallelujah!"
Schreuder's friend Jean Roux said: "One of the speakers, Neil Armstrong, a former gangster and drug addict, gave the message that you can put drugs behind you and there are support systems that can help you."
Another strong theme of the conference was that of sonship. Roux said: "I run a business with 20 staff and they are all sons to me."
Roux said he had only missed one Mighty Men conference. He was a total fan of the conferences.
"Once you attend one, you always want to go. I take my staff with me every year. Only four of my staff did not go this year."
Besides South Africans, Roux's staff are from several other African countries.
He urges men again: "For anyone who has never been to a Mighty Men conference, just go once." He said the conference was important for men as leaders in their families and in communities.
Another attendee from Mossel Bay, Dirk van Noordwyk, who is a Mr South Africa pageant entrant this year, said: "A strong message was that we, as sons of God, should put God's kingdom first and sow into the next generation because it has the future of the country in its hands. It's about being an example for the country and the next generation."
Van Noordwyk said the overarching theme of the conference this year was "being ambassadors for Christ".
