MOSSELBAAI NUUS - When Mossel Bay Advertiser visited the Community Soup Drive on Tuesday, 6 June, to write an article on the project, family rights lawyer Melanie van Aswegen was speaking to the people who had lined up to get a meal.
The article, Prepared, given with love, was in the 9 June edition of the newspaper,
Van Aswegen, a Mossel Bay resident, was telling people they had the ability to uplift themselves if they had a skill which was useful to the community and she urged them to think of something they could do.
She asked them to fill their names and cell numbers in on a piece of paper, saying what they could do and she would contact them to assist them.
Van Aswegen is also involved in organising a prayer session at the N2 and Louis Fourie Road intersection near Dana Bay, where three motor accidents have taken place over the past few weeks. There were six fatalities.
Mediation
Van Aswegen specialises in mediation and is also extremely concerned at the effect divorce has on children, families and the community.
She says: "The emotional damage of divorce has a great impact on everyone involved. When the family structure is broken, it affects the community."
It is important that those involved are led through a healing process, to become whole again and to be able to function optimally despite the trauma, Van Aswegen notes.
Conversations in a safe environment, where hope and healing are the themes, are important. The creation of a support network is also vital.
There is hope after divorce, Van Aswegen says. She encourages anyone interested to view a podcast, Hurt by Divorce, by Pastor John and Cecilia Mathuhle. See: https://iono.fm/e/1319556 or https://youtu.be/JpjzB45t3UE.
Pastor Mathuhle has other podcasts on his channel, which could be helpful: God will work it out for your good and Hope in the midst of brokenness.
